Stormwater upgrades in Jetty Road’s City zone, which were the first part of the Transforming Jetty Road Glenelg project, will reduce water pooling on the street and have extended the life of the stormwater infrastructure for another hundred years.

The construction work began in October 2024 and is now complete in the City zone of Jetty Road, which runs from Brighton Road to the Partridge / Gordon streets intersection.

Importantly, the majority of the works were undertaken at night to minimise the disruption to businesses and visitors to the street.

Council invested $246,000 in improving stormwater infrastructure which included the removal of tree roots from the existing pipes and relining the existing pipes to repair cracks and breaks. This work will reduce the risk of pooling water and flooding of the roadway, car parks and footpaths along Jetty Road.

With regular maintenance, these stormwater pipes can have a lifespan of another hundred years.

“We’re pleased to have delivered the first of many exciting improvements to Jetty Road, Glenelg with the completion of stormwater works in the City zone,” Holdfast Bay Mayor Amanda Wilson said.

“Our stormwater investigations showed that the network wasn’t performing and was impacting water drainage issues, and this investment has increased the capacity of the network.

“We’re committed to enhancing the street’s infrastructure, so it continues to serve the community well for many years to come.

“To complete this work with so little disruption to the street’s functionality and access to businesses is testament to the project team’s commitment to support our Jetty Road traders, residents and visitors.

“We will work alongside the local community throughout this project to ensure as little disturbance to the street’s operations as possible.”

Renewal construction works in the City zone continue until Thursday 19 December 2024 with contractors working at night to demolish and replace kerbs and gutters.

There will be no construction activity on Jetty Road from Friday 20 December 2024 to Monday 6 January 2025, with no construction compounds on the street during this period.

Daytime works on the footpaths in the City zone will start on Monday 6 January 2025.

Draft concept designs for the Coast and Transition zones are being developed and will be released for community consultation in early 2025.
