Waste Collection Options

We understand households differ, so we offer choice and flexibility for household waste collection.

73% of households in Holdfast Bay participate in our sustainable kerbside waste collection service, which reduces the amount of waste that goes to landfills. This service was introduced in 2021, and our overall landfill diversion rate has increased from 60% to 71%. Those on the sustainable service had a landfill diversion rate of 83%! This significant win comes from our community placing food waste, compostable packaging, paper towels, dog waste, and garden material into their FOGO bin. The contents from FOGO bins is sent to a commercial composting facility, turning it into compost and soil for South Australian vineyards and gardens.

The kerbside waste collection options within the City of Holdfast Bay are as follows:

• 240L green FOGO bin collected weekly
• 240L yellow recycling bin collected fortnightly
• 140L red landfill bin collected fortnightly

The larger bins are ideal for large households and family members with medical conditions or nappies
