Saved tree honoured with medallion
Hove resident Alicia’s love for nature and trees saved this sugar gum from being removed – and she couldn’t be happier about it.
“My love for trees and nature started when I planted a mango tree on the family home backyard when I was five years old, and still this tree is bearing sweet, golden and aromatic fruits,” Alicia said.
“Along with guavas, oranges and other tropical fruits in our garden patch, our fruit bowl was full all year around.”
When Alicia found out there were plans to remove the tree, which sits on a street corner out the front of her house, she wrote a poem to Council asking for it to be maintained.
Thanks to the work of Council’s Senior Urban Forest Officer to care for the tree, it is now flourishing much to the delight of Alicia.
