Improved pitch for North Brighton’s Bowker Oval
Aspiring cricketers will soon have a new pitch to play on with the upgrade of the Bowker Oval cricket wicket at North Brighton.
New synthetic turf will be installed within a week over the concrete slab that was poured late last year. The turf around the pitch will then be remediated.
The old pitch was replaced so that it now meets minimum standards for junior cricket.
The City of Holdfast Bay received a grant through the Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund, which is a joint initiative between the South Australian Cricket Association and Cricket Australia, to support the ongoing development of community cricket facilities.
The Glenelg Cricket Club also contributed funds towards the project.
In recent years, other upgrades have taken place at Bowker Oval including the 2022 playground upgrade which saw the installation of two new slides and swings, new seating and landscaping.
In 2021, a custom-made Book Nook – with a seat and free little library – was installed by our Field Services team thanks to funding provided by the Rotary Club of Somerton Park.
