Our History

The City of Holdfast Bay is a municipal council located on traditional Kaurna Country. Our rich history spans thousands of years.

The Holdfast Bay History Centre aims to promote awareness of our city’s history and heritage. We offer many history services, including a dedicated History Centre, a range of programs, and the Bay Discovery Centre.

Glenelg Air-Raid Shelter

The Glenelg Air-Raid Shelter was built in 1942 as part of a WWII communications network. It now houses exhibitions and memorabilia which tell the stories of Holdfast Bay and its residents during the various wars including WWII.
