Informal gatherings, where appropriate, provide a valuable opportunity to enhance the decision-making processes by providing opportunities for council members to become better informed on issues and seek further clarification. These gatherings can include planning sessions, briefings and training.
Informal meetings are not used to build consensus for council agenda items and attendance at these gatherings is not compulsory for members.
Informal gatherings are open to the public unless they are determined by the Council or CEO that they need to be held in confidence under section 90(3) of the Local Government Act 1999 or if they are a planning session or a general or strategic nature.
A copy of the Informal Gatherings Policy is available here.
