By-laws

By-laws

Councils in South Australia are able to establish by-laws, under the Local Government Act, 1999. By-laws are local laws established by councils to deal with issues specific to the relevant council area.

The City of Holdfast Bay currently has six by-laws, which apply only within the City of Holdfast Bay's boundaries. These came into effect on 14 February 2012. These six by-laws cover a wide and diverse range of topical issues in the City of Holdfast Bay.

What are By-laws?

By-laws are used to manage, control and regulate activities within the boundaries of the City.

By-laws are supplementary to existing legislation and are made subject to an Act of Parliament or Regulations made hereunder. Council may limit the area or time that a By-law is active.
